update
My little sister broke her foot. Reports indicate she's handling it well. She doesn't like crutches, she says, so she's rolling around the house sitting on her skateboard.

realization
Sometimes I wonder if I'm out to sabotage myself without realizing it.... cuz you know, if you never get past square one, you never have to face square two. So why apply for jobs? Why study for midterms? Then I'd have some level of achievement to maintain, and who wants *that* responsibility.

read
This guy biked from Alaska to Argentina at age 18: "I thought about hitchhiking through Europe," he said. "Then I remembered something I knew about, the Pan-American Highway." But of course. The Pan-American Highway.

so...
Everything seems to work okay, mostly. Or at least as well as it did before. (Thanks to Amanda, Eliina and Patrick for advance feedback.)

irrelevant muttering
So nervous about uploading this redesign... thinking something will happen... accidentally press command "erase life's work".... but damn it's been a short life so far, can't do much harm. Let's try it. Eeee.... trying it. Right now. Ok. Here I go.

play me something
I'm taking guitar lessons downtown. I ride the train for about an hour to get there. So me and my guitar spend a lot of time in public. People see us, you know, together. Or more accurately, they see the guitar case. They see how it looks heavy, beat-up and dusty, as though I've taken it on long, dusty road trips. They see that its leather hinges and brassy buckles look worn and scratched. Yeah, me and this guitar, we've been around, the case seems to say.

Of course, I've only had a handful of lessons. I can only play four chords. The guitar is my mother's; she got it cheap from a friend who'd given up on it. So it isn't love and a road tour that makes the case look worn. No. It's been sitting in a closet for twenty years. So I lug this case around with me and look like I could break into a Kenny Rogers song at any moment. And sometimes people ask me to play something (more on this later). And I have to say, no, sorry, I don't know how. I was thinking about it. People have such expectations based on appearances. I have a feeling I'll be entering the job market the same way, with decent-looking credentials and not a song in my head.
